WHAT IS IT
Writing about feelings is a writing and reading path whose main feature is love. When writing about feelings, there are two objectives: defending yourself from yourself as a narrator and learning how to avoid those traps that are easy to fall into when writing sentimental stories.
You are going to read to understand how to write about love without sentimentalisms or stereotypes and you are going to write and put what you have learn into practice.
The main tools of the workshop will be observation and distancing. You will get close to the stories you read and you are going to try to write your own based on those principles.
The first thing you will have to do is identify a voice which can be perceived as new, so therefore authentic and can distance itself from already heard voices and situations. Because love and the pain which often comes with it are universal concepts and common places of literature per se. It is like talking about life or death; it is not the topic in itself that makes the difference, but the way in which it is written.
One of the traps a writer is most likely to walk right into is language. It is easy to get lost in worn-out set phrases, as if one could write about love and always say the same thing. That is not how it works. There are as many ways to talk about love as the voices and feelings of those who write about them, and most of them are not clichéd at all.
Writing about love has to do with awareness, but mostly with managing the truth. It has to do with choices, turning points and the most appropriate words to define feelings. It has to do with sentimental time, intended as distance. How distant does one have to be from pain to be able to talk about sorrow without suffering anymore (so therefore write about it)? Can a scar be useful?
Perhaps you have already written a romantic novel or story, or you would like to do it but you are still stuck on your first idea or draft. Good, this course is the right place to start from scratch or think about what you have drafted again. Before the course starts, you will all have to send a two-page love letter (3.600 characters, including spaces) and tell the story that you have been writing (or would like to write). That letter will be the trigger, the awakening for this intense journey into love. Lesson after lesson, you will be working on your text and end up writing the beginning, the synopsis, a chapter of a novel or a 20.000-character story.
Lessons will start in October and will go on for three months.

How does Classi-fy work?
You’ll have to follow a weekly timetable of appointments, which can be video lessons or notes to read. You’ll have deadlines to write and share your homework on Classi-fy website. You’ll read what your classmates write and you’ll be able to comment or receive feedback on what you write. You’ll be able to meet each other and talk about the lessons on the forum – ok, we already know you won’t only talk about that, but that’s part of the fun. Sometimes your teacher will post a video in which he publicly analyses the work of the class, but you’ll receive your personal evaluation also from your classmates, during the debate.
What about the course timetable?
You’ll know it pretty soon: lessons will start in October and will last three months.
What are the technical skill necessary to take part to the course? Do I have to install a special program on my computer?
You’ll mainly work online, therefore all you need is the internet connection. On classi-fy.it website you can share your documents, watch the video lessons, download teaching material and text your classmates.
What does it happen at the end of the course?
The class will come to Scuola Holden, in Turin, in order to attend the final lesson and collect your diploma. Eventually you’ll meet everyone and, if everything is right, you’ll have a beer together in Borgo Dora to celebrate.
