Writing for Kids Is Not Child’s Play

Product Description

“They wrote a book, but it is for children”: we often come across these words, as if writing for children was a sign of infantilism, or giving up writing about “more serious” things. As if a good children’s book could be written by anyone and have fewer ideas, less history, less beauty, less everything.
However, most adults cite Pinocchio and Peter Pan more willingly than any other classic written for adults. They are fixed on Tolkien, know Harry Potter by heart, have tattoos of Winnie the Pooh and give The Little Prince as a present. Perhaps that is why (as well as the fact that almost no one is willing to “grow up” anymore) young adult novels make up the most expanding publishing market and family-orientated epic stories dominate in the cinemas. But that enchanted world that we think we know so well is just the most superficial layer of the deep and tumultuous ocean of children’s literature.

Together, we will analyse the most unknown and subversive stories and their up-to-date capacity to interpret reality. We will sharpen the technical and fantastic tools to continue writing stories for children, who are so crucial in our collective imagination. The goal will be to write about 8,000 characters, which can be either a complete story or the beginning of a children’s novel.

Lessons will start in December and will last three months.

You’ll be able to meet each other and talk about the lessons on the forum – ok, we already know you won’t only talk about that, but that’s part of the fun. Sometimes your teacher will post a video in which he publicly analyses the work of the class, but you’ll receive your personal evaluation also from your classmates, during the debate.
